Wooly brickellia is a dense rounded shrub in the sunflower family. The foliage is very pale gray-green with white hairs. “Incana” means grayish or white wooly and from a distance the shrub can look silvery. The flower heads can have red or purple accents when in bloom, but when the shrub goes to seed it looks like it’s covered in white puffs. Wooly brickellia is found in sandy and gravelly washes in creosote bush scrub, shadscale scrub and Joshua tree woodland. It can also be found in sub-communities like crucifixion thorn stands and cheesebush scrub. Often found growing in washes with desert willow, ephedra, and catclaw acacia. Establishes and reseeds easily.
