The Mojave Desert Land Trust purchases ecologically significant lands throughout the California desert region and works to ensure that all acquired land is properly stewarded and maintained. Each acquisition supports the vision of a Mojave Desert with interconnected, permanently protected natural scenic areas that host a diversity of native plants and wildlife. MDLT has conserved over 110,000 acres since 2006.
Why sell or donate your land to the Mojave Desert Land Trust?
MDLT pays the fair market value that any traditional real estate sale would offer and covers all transaction costs. The process is easy, straightforward, and typically completed within 90 days.
A conservation acquisition of your property affords you a variety of tax benefits not available in traditional real estate sales. How we work
Our work does not stop at land acquisition. Once a parcel is purchased, MDLT ensures its permanent protection. Some properties are conveyed to government agencies to be incorporated into national parks, monuments, and federal wilderness. MDLT has conveyed more tracts of land to the National Park Service than any non-profit since 2006. We hold and steward some properties in perpetuity. MDLT removes tons of trash from our land every year, clearing the way for plants and animals to return. The health and resilience of the desert depends on people working together to protect it. With help from our volunteer community, we regularly monitor our properties, restore degraded habitat, and conduct wildlife surveys.
Planned giving
MDLT accepts certain gifts of land to support our conservation mission. Lands identified as strategic conservation priorities are accepted as conservation land donations. Other land donations may be accepted for their financial value.
If your property is accepted, you could significantly reduce your legal and tax liabilities on the properties by deducting the current market value of your donated property.
