Fairyduster plants are relatively small shrubs and tend to have a rounded shape. They do require watering year-round even after they have established themselves, and no more than three times a month in the summer. The fairyduster can be found in sandy wash-es, slopes and mesas so they thrive in fast draining soils. It also inhabits creosote bush scrub, and some companion plants include desert willow, California fan palm, desert lavender, creosote bush, paloverde, jojoba, and brittlebush.
