Flowers: White to pink in summer
Native to: Southwestern United States & Mexico

Desert willow is a graceful tree or large shrub with an open structure and beautiful trumpet-like flowers in summer. Chilopsis is not a true willow (Salix) but is commonly named so due to its linear leaves and weeping branches that resemble the willow. It is a fantastic tree for many different pollinators and a great shade tree for patio gardens. It attracts bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. It is dependent on subsurface water and can grow roots as deep as 50 feet. Although drought-tolerant once established, occasional (monthly) deep watering is recommended. Desert willow is winter deciduous and is best pruned during winter months when the foliage is absent and structure can be evaluated. Desert willow is found in sandy washes in the central and eastern Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert all the way to Texas and Mexico.
