Cheesebush is a short-lived shrub in the sunflower family. The leaves are thin and resinous and emit a “cheesy” odor when crushed. It is drought-deciduous and will drop leaves and branches during the hot summer months. Cheesebush is a co-dominant species with creosote bush (Larrea tridentata)in the creosote scrub, shadscale scrub, Joshua tree woodland, and pinyon-juniper woodland. Cheesebush can rapidly establish disturbed areas and resprout after a fire, making it an excellent choice for restoring disturbed or graded sites.
