The Mojave Desert Restoration Nursery enhances habitat and supports wildlife corridors by growing native plants to restore damaged ecosystems.
Our nursery facilities include an 1,800 square foot greenhouse, 9,000 square feet of shaded growing space, and 1,500 square feet of growing area for seed increase production.
We can grow plant material for projects according to contract specifications. Services include site-specific seed collection, seed bulking, and contract growing of container plants.
Growing native plants for restoration
What to know
Is there a minimum order quantity?
All contracts require a 100 plant minimum.
What’s the lead time on plants?
We accept orders from October to January, for delivery the following fall.
Are we able to customize the substrate?
Customizing soil and irrigation to mimic local conditions at the restoration site helps prevent shock when plants are transplanted. We can create custom soil and adjust water salinity to your site specifications.
What seeds will be used for my project?
Using local ecotypes leads to more successful restoration. If suitable seed is not available in our Seed Bank, we can collect it as part of the agreement, or you are welcome to provide your own.
How do you manage potential pathogens?
We sterilize soil with steam to eliminate pests and pathogens, ensuring healthy plant growth. Ask us about other available phytosanitation methods.
I have additional questions.
We’re happy to help you determine the best options for your project. Please reach out with any questions or additional needs!
All requests will be assessed for alignment with MDLT's conservation values.
Just need a few plants?
Come to our annual native plant sale! This popular community event takes place in the fall—the best time to plant in the desert. Sign up on our mailing list to be among the first to know when we announce the next sale date.
Our seeds are sustainably harvested by hand from locally sourced California native plants cultivated in our restoration nursery. Selection rotates seasonally.
