Native Plant Sale FAQs
The sale is Saturday, October 25 from 9am-2pm at MDLT headquarters, 60124 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree, California.
A list of available species and map of the sale layout will be posted here when they are finalized.
What to expect
What to know for 2025:
The sale will be an hour longer this year—doors open at 9am! General parking will be available along the street on Olympic. ADA parking is available in the lot. Please carpool if possible.
To ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, we will be staggering entry.
We encourage supporters to bring their own carts to transport plants to their vehicles. If you bring your own cart, it should be placed in the “Holds/Checkout” area before shopping.
The entrance to the sale will be through the large wooden gate on the north (not highway-facing) side of our building. Some customers arrive early to secure their place in line. Customers should line up on the west side of the building by the Mojave Desert Discovery Garden. We recommend bringing water and an umbrella or a wide-brimmed sun hat.
To facilitate a quicker checkout for both customers and staff, the plant sale will be cashless. We will accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and checks. We have also increased the number of available cashiers to help improve flow and create a better customer experience.
The inventory of plants for sale will be posted here when it is available. All available plants will be arranged on tables in the gravel courtyard inside our building. There will be a holding area around the perimeter of the courtyard with taped-off squares where you can set your plants until you are ready to check out. Once you’ve chosen all your plants, a mobile cashier will come to you to ring you up. We appreciate your patience while our mobile cashiers process orders!
This year we are introducing an accessibility program to better serve our supporters who need additional assistance. If you would benefit from assistance moving plants or shopping, please view our Plant Sale Accessibility Program.
Please plan to take all purchased plants with you when you leave. Volunteers will be on hand to help you load. We cannot hold plants for later pickup.
FAQs

To facilitate a quicker checkout for both customers and staff, the plant sale is cashless. We will accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and checks.
Do members get a discount?
Members get 10% off their plant sale order. Sign up for a membership here. Staff will be available to facilitate membership signups and answer questions. If you are unsure whether your membership is current, please email membership@mdlt.org by October 22, 2025 and we’ll let you know!
Will purchases of certain plants be limited?
Yes, a few popular species will be limited. These will be indicated on the inventory list and on the plants during the sale. Our available inventory will be posted here ahead of the sale.
The plant I want is sold out. Can I backorder?
There is no backstock, and we cannot offer backorders.
I have mobility needs. Will someone be available to assist?
Yes. Supporters requesting assistance will check in at the Accessibility Station located outside of MDLT front doors. Support is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration will help us determine staffing needs for this program, but is not required. MDLT will attempt to accommodate all supporters who request assistance regardless of pre-registration. Pre-registration does not offer additional benefits (for example, skipping the line).
What plants should I choose for my property?
If you need help choosing the right plants for your property, we encourage you to browse Calscape.org or hire a local designer/consultant before the sale. Our website has lists of suggested plants based on your landscaping goals.
Will someone be available for advice on how to plant?
Yes! Our Plant Conservation team and knowledgeable volunteers will be available during the sale to answer your questions. In addition, our planting guide is online and hard copies will be available at the sale. They can also be found on our website here.
Why do you not allow returns or exchanges?
To protect the health of our plants, we do not accept returns or exchanges once plant material has left the premises.
Will you have merchandise available?
Yes! Check out our online shop to browse or purchase ahead of time (free local pickup is available). Merch and plants must be purchased in separate transactions.
Are dogs allowed?
Only service animals are permitted. The sale gets crowded and some pets may become overwhelmed. For their safety, it is best if they are left at home.
Donations are welcome! Donations can be made at www.mdlt.org/donate or at the time of your plant sale purchase. We are grateful for your support!
