Exploring the Outdoors

Calling all fourth graders, their families, and educators!

Every Kid Outdoors

There is a federal program available designed specifically for fourth graders called Every Kid Outdoors that allows all fourth graders to obtain a special pass for the entire school year (August to August) that grants free entry into hundreds of National Parks and other public lands!

How to obtain your pass:

  1. Visit the Every Kid Outdoors website and fill out the requested information.
  2. Print your ticket and take it to a Visitor Center to receive your official pass.
  3. Plan your family’s next adventure to your national public lands!

Educators can also visit the website, download an activity for students to complete, and print off the paper passes for students.

California State Parks Adventure Pass

There is also a new California State Parks Adventure Pass for California fourth grade students! It works like the Every Kid Outdoors Pass and is accepted at 19 different state parks throughout California. Click here to learn more about this program.

Junior Rangers

“Explore, Learn, Protect!” is the motto of the Junior Ranger. When you visit your public lands, ask how your child or student can become a Junior Ranger! Students can become a Junior Ranger (young steward) by asking for the book, filling out the parts needed, and taking the Junior Ranger pledge. Afterward they are given an official Junior Ranger badge (varies somewhat by agency).

Have fun exploring your public lands!
