Our History

Preserving Our Desert Heritage

In 2006, a dedicated group of visionary leaders created the Mojave Desert Land Trust to protect the fragile environments and quality of life treasured by Mojave Desert residents and visitors.

2006 Mojave Desert Land Trust formed.

2008 Nolina Peak campaign completed. 639 acres in the Joshua Tree North Wildlife Linkage purchased and donated to the adjacent Joshua Tree National Park.

2011 Quail Mountain Project purchased. Held and maintained by MDLT in partnership with Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) until conveyance to Joshua Tree National Park.

2013 Gateway Parcel – Section 33 purchased. Held and maintained in perpetuity by MDLT in partnership with MGAGCC.

2015 Quail Wash Project purchased. An achievement nearly ten-years in the making. Held and maintained by MDLT in partnership with MCAGCC until conveyance to Joshua Tree National Park.

2015 MDLT relocates to new Headquarters, expanding its conservation vision for the California Desert.

2016 MDLT celebrates 10 YEARS of protecting and connecting the California Desert and establishes a Native Plant Nursery and Conservation Seed Bank at its Headquarters, an evolving center for conservation initiatives.
