Volunteer opportunities
Volunteers help MDLT Natural Resource technicians do habitat restoration through vertical mulching, sign and fence installation, property clean-up and trash removal, local monitoring and data collection, and invasive plant removal. Volunteering for Stewardship Days can be strenuous work that requires the ability to lift objects, and work in the sun for periods of time. These opportunities are a fulfilling way to directly support the deserts where we live, work, and recreate.
Our outreach education programs empower individuals to develop the skills and confidence to become active citizen scientists, land stewards, and community members. Assist with training other volunteers or students in data collection, and playing a role in youth education on local MDLT properties.
Nursery and seed bank volunteers assist with various projects including seed collection, seed cleaning, weeding, planting, pot washing, and light construction projects. Volunteers are also encouraged to help out at our annual spring and fall plant sales.
Volunteers help with organizing, filing, scanning, data entry, and mailings. This is the perfect team to join if you prefer working indoors on light, detail-oriented administrative or organizational projects.
Facilities volunteers help with general grounds-keeping such as watering and weeding, and small repair, maintenance and construction projects. Volunteers with some light construction and/or landscaping, irrigation, plant care, and gardening skills are perfect for this team. If you enjoy light exercise and working outside, this is the team for you.
