Native Plant Sale FAQ

The inventory for our 2022 Fall Plant Sale is available here.

I don’t see the plant sale on your website. Where do I go to purchase plants?
Our Fall Native Plant & Salvage Sale will be taking place in-person for the first time since 2019! We are excited to welcome the public back into our headquarters at 60124 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree, California. The sale will be held on Saturday, October 8 from 9am to 1pm.

I can’t make it in person. Will there be an online component, or can I place a pre-order?
We will not be hosting an online component for this sale. All plants will be available on October 8 at our headquarters on a first-come, first-served basis. We will not be accepting pre-orders.

Tell me more about the salvage.
A unique array of salvage has been collected from MDLT properties throughout the California deserts for use in craft projects, home décor, and eclectic yard art. This includes vintage fixtures, raw materials, glass bottles and 55-gallon drums. All items have a “desert patina”.

This will be our final salvage sale, so all things must go!

What forms of payment will you accept?
We are set up to take all major credit cards, cash or check. Members get 10% off their plant sale order. You can sign up for a membership in advance here.

Will I be able to select my plants myself?
Yes. All available plants will be set up in our courtyard the morning of October 8th. Doors will open at 9am. There will be a holding area where you can set your plants until you are ready to check out.  Please plan to take all purchased plants with you by 1pm on October 8th. Volunteers will be on hand to help you load. We cannot hold plants after the sale.

The plant I want is sold out. Can I backorder?
We cannot offer backorders at this time. The posted inventory represents all available plants, and all available plants will be in the courtyard the morning of the sale.

Will you have any other plants available this month?
Our Fall 2022 inventory will be posted 2-3 weeks prior to the sale. An email will be sent out to newsletter subscribers, and you will find the inventory list on our website and social media accounts. Our next plant sale will be held in Spring 2023.

I would like to buy other merchandise. Can I pick it up with my plants?
Yes! We will have a merch table set up. During the sale, visitors will also be able to learn about MDLT’s land acquisition, stewardship, and philanthropic programs, and find out how they can support our conservation work through volunteering.

Will someone be available to advise me on how to plant when I pick up my order?
Yes! Our plant conservation team will be available during the sale to answer your questions.

In addition, our planting guide is online and hard copies will be available at the sale.

Is there anyone who can advise me on what plants to choose for my property?
If you need help choosing the right plants for your property, we encourage you to browse or hire a local designer/consultant. You can also check out our guides to understanding the uses of native plants, which have lists of suggested plants based on your landscaping goals.

Why do you not allow returns or exchanges?
To protect the health of our plants, we do not accept returns or exchanges once plant material has left the premises.
