Volunteer

Volunteers help with native plant seed-gathering excursions on MDLT properties, and seed cleaning in the seed lab. The seeds are collected and stored in our conservation seed bank. Members of this team may also be trained to help with basic plant propagation, irrigation, maintenance, and other horticultural tasks as needed.

“I came to the California desert in 1998 for health reasons, built an off-grid cabin bordering Pipes Canyon Preserve, and began to learn about the desert through the course of hiking over 25,000 miles there. After moving to Joshua Tree in 2013 I began volunteering with MDLT. I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated staff and volunteers at MDLT for the cause of ‘keeping it wild.’“
