Desert Discovery Garden Volunteer Planting Day
March 7, 2020 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Join us for a community planting day as we install native plants in our new Desert Discovery Garden! When completed, the garden will be open to the public and will feature an ethnobotanical garden, cactus garden, and 3 pollinator gardens, and will be accompanied by interpretive signage.
Volunteers will be able to take home cuttings from several non-native ornamental cacti that will be replaced with native specimens. Bring your own box to carry. We will provide tongs.
8am: Planting demonstration by MDLT staff
9am-12pm: Plant approximately 200 native plants (grown in our nursery) and install temporary caging to protect them from critters.
What to bring: hat, sunscreen, water bottle, closed-toe shoes, and comfortable clothes.
We will provide gardening gloves, shovels, trowels, and refreshments!
MDLT welcomes responsible, non-motorized use of our lands, such as hiking. If you have an interest in holding an organized event on MDLT land which charges participants a fee, which would have a large number of participants, or which requires special accommodations, equipment or supplies, a Special Use Permit may be required. The permit allows us to ensure that our lands are treated respectfully and that we are able to keep them in good condition for the future enjoyment of all.
