Campfire Talk – Dark Night Sky Project
April 8, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Did you know that there are places in the Mojave Desert where the night sky is dark and ideal for stargazing? The Mojave Trails National Monument is one of those places. But, encroaching light pollution is starting to impact the quality of the night sky in the monument and its wild places. This International Dark Sky Week, join us for a virtual Campfire Talk with WISDOM (Women In Science Discovering Our Mojave) interns who will share their findings from a dark night sky survey they conducted in the monument. You will see an exclusive new film about this pioneering project and learn how the interns measured the sky and what they uncovered.
MDLT welcomes responsible, non-motorized use of our lands, such as hiking. If you have an interest in holding an organized event on MDLT land which charges participants a fee, which would have a large number of participants, or which requires special accommodations, equipment or supplies, a Special Use Permit may be required. The permit allows us to ensure that our lands are treated respectfully and that we are able to keep them in good condition for the future enjoyment of all.
