THE MOJAVE DESERT LAND TRUST
Pick-up your FREE copy of the BIG READ book
National Endowment for the Arts, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Showcasing a diverse range of contemporary titles that reflect many different voices and perspectives, the NEA Big Read aims to inspire conversation and discovery.
The NEA Big Read Kick-Off at the Mojave Desert Land Trust will be an open-house celebration where community members can pick-up copies of the book, learn about the wide variety of programming from our 20 partner organizations, participate in a zine-making workshop, art-making activities and experience a storytelling hour with live music. The multi-generational event will include activities for all age groups making families, young adults and seniors alike feel welcome. Inspired by the central role of comic books in Station Eleven, the interactive zine workshops taking place during the kick-off will give participants an opportunity to make their own zine or comic. The workshop will be open to all ages and suitable for both first-time and seasoned zine/comic-makers alike.
MDLT welcomes responsible, non-motorized use of our lands, such as hiking. If you have an interest in holding an organized event on MDLT land which charges participants a fee, which would have a large number of participants, or which requires special accommodations, equipment or supplies, a Special Use Permit may be required. The permit allows us to ensure that our lands are treated respectfully and that we are able to keep them in good condition for the future enjoyment of all.
